About Us

SYHA is celebrating 44 years of youth hockey! The mission of SYHA is to teach and promote the fundamental skills needed to play in a developmental and competitive hockey program in a positive, fun, safe and nurturing environment.

The SYHA coaches teach player the necessary skills and strategies to be successful on and off the ice. Focus will be placed on skill development, team play, sportsmanship, confidence building, leadership, respecting officials and understanding the value of working hard to achieve goals.

SYHA promotes an atmosphere where friendships and relationships can develop among families, coaches and players.

We offer 3 programs:

Tiger Sharks:

The Tiger Sharks program is a learn to skate program. Most of the children are between the ages of 4 and 6. If your child is older and cannot skate, we suggest they start with the Tiger Sharks and then move up to the Mites as soon as they are able. Tiger Sharks start by first learning to catch their balance. As skills progress, the players will move to other areas of the ice where the focus is on skating skills such as edge control, stopping, backward skating and agility.

House Hockey:

The primary goal of the SYHA House program is for the players to have fun and develop an appreciation for the game of hockey. The focus is to develop basic skills in a fun atmosphere with plenty of encouragement from the coaches and parents.

Travel Hockey:

The SYHA Travel program is a more competitive program which consists of 5 different levels (Mite, Squirt, PeeWee, Bantam). All players interested in playing travel hockey must go through the league tryout process. Players are evaluated and selected by the Travel Coaches based on the ability and conduct on the ice. Travel teams skate up to 4 times a week (2 practices and 2 games) along with 2-3 tournaments a season. Playing travel hockey is a commitment made by not only the players, but the player's families. SYHA understands this and takes pride in making the travel experience wonderful for all involved (players, coaches and families).
